Briefly describe your symptoms and the medical condition that brought you to see the doctor.

I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and two discs with compression fractures in mid 2016. These were treated with a brace and given time to heal. This appeared to be successful.

By early 2017, I’d completed chemo and was being prepped for an autologous bone marrow transplant when the back pain returned - a lot of it. I was taking some pretty strong pain meds and it was getting worse.

What one or two things stand out to you about your experience with your doctor and their team?

My initial contact was with Dr. Theodore Wagner who diagnosed me as having a burst disc and referred me to Dr. Kushgara Verma.

The most noticeable thing was that none of them treated me as a patient, they all treated me as a friend who they were going to help.

I don't know if I'm explaining this right, but the warmth, caring and concern they showed me is unmistakable.

Briefly describe your symptoms and the medical condition that brought you to see the doctor.

I have arthritis in several of my joints, after 22 years of working in a correctional facility. My knees were getting to the point where I couldn't decide which one to limp on! Stairs, 12-hour shifts on concrete floors, a few altercations over the years, and my left knee finally made the decision for me.

What one or two things stand out to you about your experience with your doctor and their team?

My husband had recently had a total shoulder replacement through the U of W Ortho Clinic, and his doctor did an amazing job, considering what he had to work with - so I asked for his recommendation on a knee surgeon. He initially referred me to Dr. Seth Leopold, who I flew down to Seattle to see (I live in Alaska). Then it got amazing.... Dr. Leopold saw me, and determined I needed only a partial knee replacement. He recommended me to Dr. Adam Sassoon, who specializes in partials. Then, since I'd flown all that way to get seen, he pulled out his cell phone at 3pm on a Friday, called Dr. Sassoon PERSONALLY and pulled in a 'favor'. Dr. Sassoon saw me about an hour later, examined me, and we set up the surgery. I was amazed at how smooth the entire set up was!!

Briefly describe your symptoms and the medical condition that brought you to see the doctor.

I had massively debilitating pain radiating down my left leg and into my toes after simply standing up and feeling like doing so had snapped something connected to my leg. I had already experienced this type of pain pattern, but only when doing certain movements and stretches. This was intensely worse, and over the next few days had progressed to the point that I couldn't sit, stand, lie down, or move without severe pain to my leg. Eventually I found that if I remained standing I could eventually push through minimize the pain. I basically remained standing every day for weeks, lying down to sleep (minimally due to pain) and waking up every morning with severe symptoms that would only diminish when I stood for about an hour. Sitting or lying down for any short period of time would bring the severe leg pain back.

What one or two things stand out to you about your experience with your doctor and their team?

My doctors, Dr. Verma and Dr. Leim, were professional and direct. Their analysis was clearly explained and supported by the findings of my MRI. I am an attorney who litigates spinal conditions as part of my practice, so the doctors encouraged me to read medical literature and studies to help me understand the risks, benefits, and outcomes of the appropriate surgery. I am grateful for this level of respect for my decision whether or not to pursue surgery. They quickly earned my trust and understood quickly that I wanted to pursue the best treatment options for long term success. Their clear and efficient approach to patient care stood out, as well as their friendliness and caring in handling a very painful situation.

Profession: Retired
Doctor: Dr. Reza Firoozabadi

Briefly describe your symptoms and the medical condition that brought you to see the doctor.

I am a male, 86 years old, very active and with a big yard that I love to care for. We have an RV and we play golf and have lots of fun vacations. On July 24th I fell from a small ladder in my garage and fractured my pelvis and hip socket. Twelve days in Harborview and 9 hour surgery and 1 month in rehab and now I am doing well. It was a long road, but with the care of my wife and family I am now mobile and walking without a cane or walker and with very little pain.
My Dr. Firoozabodi preformed a wonderful surgery that gave me back my life.
We are very grateful for the talent and compassion of our Dr.

What one or two things stand out to you about your experience with your doctor and their team?

Compassion, understanding and information. It was very clear what was going to happen and what the outcome would be

Briefly describe your symptoms and the medical condition that brought you to see the doctor.

In December 2016 I had the most idiotic fall attempting to bring two family size pizzas to meet my family at my mother's home for our annual "Friday Night family night"(approx. 10 min away by walking). My daughter, who was 13 at the time, accompanied me to pick up our pizza order before going over. On the way there I was fine, but on the way to my mom's....clumsy me! (@ 36 at the time) couldn't see through the extra large boxes, tripped on uneven concrete and fell face first on the ground. The kid says I bounced. During the process of falling I cut both my knees and both forearms and palms and my daughter, whom I love greatly, cracked up laughing asking me "how did I bounce without a trampoline?" Anyway, people in their cars slowed down to gawk because of the way I fell, I guess. Since I was so embarrassed, I told her to "hush up and help me up" and then I limped to my mothers home. The next morning I was in a lot of pain so we stayed at my mom,s and I was told to go to the emergency room but...I was so embarrassed. I couldn't go until after a week of excruciating pain.

What one or two things stand out to you about your experience with your doctor and their team?

With Dr Verma I felt a sense of relief like...Finally I'll be out of pain. Dr Verma is very honest and very nice. He presented himself as very professional and charming.

Profession: Retired
Doctor: Winston J. Warme, MD

Briefly describe your symptoms and the medical condition that brought you to see the doctor.

I was treated conservatively for shoulder pain by a different doctor. After a year of PT and cortisone injections my pain returned and my limitations grew worse. Luckily for me I decided to get an opinion from Dr. Warme and the PA, Jill Eggers-Knight at the ESSC in Bellevue. Dr. Warme explained very thoroughly my shoulder issue and that a rotator repair would be my best option. I decided to have the surgery and am so happy that I did. Thanks to Dr. Warme and his surgery team and my physical therapist, Debra Parrot I am now able to do the things I used to do before my injury and am looking forward to getting out on the golf course with my husband!

What one or two things stand out to you about your experience with your doctor and their team?

The two things I appreciated the most about everyone was their caring attitude and willingness to explain things so that I could understand them.

Profession: Health Care
Doctor: Winston J. Warme, MD

Briefly describe your symptoms and the medical condition that brought you to see the doctor.

I had been in a car accident 6+ years prior and a MD in Spokane finally identified the problem - no surgeon in this area would even look at it. He referred me to Dr. Warme. My medial clavicle would float out towards my throat and override the sternum causing constant headaches and pain.

What one or two things stand out to you about your experience with your doctor and their team?

I saw the PA first and she did a thorough review and then I saw Dr. Warme. He was the fourth surgical person I saw and he 1) knew what the problem was and 2) knew it was difficult to impossible to live with due to decreased function and daily pain.

Briefly describe your symptoms and the medical condition that brought you to see the doctor.

Sternoclavicular subluxation that began when my arm was pulled on by a patient I was treating. The pain was immediate and since it was an L&I claim I had to go the route of Physical Therapy for 4months before they decided I should see a surgeon. I had limited range of motion, pain in neck from bone pulling muscles downward, and a real nasty click and pop when either pulling my shoulders back or shrugging my shoulders.

What one or two things stand out to you about your experience with your doctor and their team?

Dr. Warmes bedside manner is the greatest. He really took time to know who I was and showed genuine concern for what I was going through. Not only is he an amazing surgeon but he is an amazing guy all around.
